I need to send letters to a couple creditors to clear up my credit rating / credit score. Can someone recommend a good place to find them?

  1. Why not just write them yourself? They aren't that hard to do. Do you have a wordprocessing program ? Microsoft Works or Wordperfect are good. You can download a free one from www.download.com. All you have to do is use a standard business letter format. Type in your name and address and phone in the from section. Type the creditors in the to section. Then type the date justified with the right margin. Then type "RE: YOUR ACCOUNT # HERE" Justified on the Left Margin. Then type "To Whom It May Concern:" Justified on left margin. Press return. Indent five spaces. Type in that you want to dispute the account because ----------. New Paragraph. Please contact me regarding this issue. Then sign it. Mail it certified, register, return reciept requested to creditor. Save a copy of the letter you mailed. Save the reciepts you get from the post office. If you don't hear from the company within 30 days after you mailed letter, write more letters 1 each to all 3 major credit bureaus . Say you disputed the bill enclose copies of letter you wrote them, copies of reciepts from post office. Say that you want the item removed because they never responded to you within the 30 days. Also remind credit bureau that they are required by law to remove the item. Send these letters certified, registered, return reciept requested as well. 30 days after credit bureau gets letter, check your credit reports. The item should be removed. If not, resend a letter with more copies of proof with a threat to contact attorney to the credit bureau. Follow the letter up with a phone call. That should solve problem.
  2. Well, there are plenty online if you do a search. If you're disputing false information, you should contact the credit bureau.
  3. Forgot to mention that this site also has a good Q&A section that might be a resource for you. Here's the link again, http://www.creditscoresystems.com FYI, I've been through the "ringer" with creditor issues. While it's certainly not fun, most creditors will work with you. They would rather get X% settlement, paid over time, than zero dollars. That being said, if you don't plan on paying your credit cards, or simply can't, I have heard of some people (*not me) just blow off credit card balances. Eventually they will give up because credit cards loans are unsecured. The calls will stop and the letters will stop. BUT, they will mess up your credit report for a good 7-10 years. I am not condoning this. Just offering advice from someone who has been in the trenches and survived - with a current and nice credit score, after 8 years :)....... Another thing is that if you are in deep financial trouble, I HIGHLY recommend against borrowing money against your house (2nd Mtg/ refinance) to pay off credit cards. Don't risk your house with a higher mortgage just to get CC balances off your back. If you can't pay the CC companies, you can't pay. Negotiate with the CC companies for a lower rate and balance. They will work with you, but don't lose your home over it if you can't make the higher mortage payments.
