Credit Repair

Who should I speak with about repairing my bad credit?

I have some unpaid bills that are about 5-6yrs old. Obviously my credit is bad because of this. Who should I speak with about repairing my credit? Attorney? Credit counselor? Who? How much?I've been told about the statue of limitations but I'm not sure I understand the system. Please help I really want to take care of this.

  1. i hope u get complete details of your credit! http://freewebs.com/best-creditcard
  2. A credit councelor is someone who can get you on the right track if you have bad credit, but some do charge a fee. I would start with your bank/credit union. Many (especially credit unions) will tell you what you need to do to recify your credit free of charge, as long as you are a member.
  3. Credit counselor!! They will help you out a lot and start to get that debt paid off. Also, when you start to repair your credit, the best thing to do is get a installment loan through a secured creditor.
  4. well, you don't really need to speak with anyone, per se. what you need to do is get a copy of your credit reports (in the mail or online), review them to make sure that the all the information is correct and indeed yours, and then start a letter writing campaign to get these older items off your credit report. techniques- how you go about addressing the issue of your bad debts is up to you. some people contact the creditors and pay them off (and then write to the credit reporting agency indicating that the debt has been satisfied), while others use the "deny deny deny" technique. The choice is yours. Simultanously, sign up for some really crappy credit cards i.e. First Premier Bank, Orchard Bank...anyone who will give you a low limit, high fee credit card, but who will report your new found sense of responsiblility to the credit bureaus. If you do this, in about 6 months, you should be able to apply for a walmart card. It'll be low limit, but if you use it for small stuff and pay it regularly, you'll build your credit fast. No matter how bad your credit is, it takes about 1 year to get back on track. It's tedious, but doable. How do I know all this- personal experience- came back from judgments and a bankruptcy. I reestablished my credit in a year and now have 5 major, high-limit credit cards which I pay regularly. PS- the books at Barnes and Nobel are a great resource to find out things like letter writing formats and stuff. This is where I learned what to say in my letters.
