Has anyone tried using these online credit repair services?
There is a law firm that keeps popping up on websites that says they can improve your credit score. Has anyone actuallly tried this service. If so what was your experience with them? Am I better off trying to repair my credit myself.

- Legit credit repair associates cost a lot of money and that is the only down fall about getting someone to help take of your negative reports and reduce your interests to make a settlement amount. The other credit repair companies are scams and once you pay the sign up fee, they end up turning your debt and bank account even deeper into the hole. I found an legit company that does do what they say but charges $699. But they do take out over $4,000 off on interests and do take off negative charge-offs from your credit report and give you an opportunity to get a credit card and show you how to boost your credit score to 490 to 620 in 5 months... - Depends on what you're trying to repair? A legitimate company/service can negotiate with your creditors so you potentially only have to pay a portion of the balance or pay lower rates or work out some kind of payment plan. This is a great option if you're already severly delinquent and don't think you can get back on track. In other words you're credit has already been damaged. If you're just in over your head but you're still current keep in mind that the result of those negotiations will put some black marks on your credit that won't go away for awhile. Pay it off if you can. The other thing they can do for you is dispute inaccurate items on your credit report. If they're legitimate mistakes then the bureaus have to remove them. But this can take a fair amount of documentation and hounding. Any of the above will, over time, improve your score but expect it to take several months or longer to improve. You can do all of this yourself btw. It's a matter of whether you feel comfortable negotiating or have the time and resources to do it or if you want to pay a professional. What they can't do is remove negative items from your credit reports. If you have delinquencies, chargeoffs, collections etc. they can't remove them to improve you're score. If they say they can they're lying and you should run!
- In order to build up credit and establish a good credit, you must show a number of stabilizing attributes. Most notably, your report must prove to the lender that he will get his money back. Here are some suggestions: I've found some good information here too... http://www.safelinked.info/jump.php?link=debt Best of luck.
